Music of faith, passion, exile and humor, including Gregorian and synagogue chant; music from the Inquisition; Sephardic melodies; music from Catholic Italy and Reformation France, Germany and England; polyphony by Salamone Rossi, the great Jewish composer of the Italian Renaissance; the synagogue scene from Vecchi’s comedy, L’Amfiparnaso; and readings from the period, interwoven with the music.
