CHICAGO A CAPPELLA HOSTS 8TH ANNUAL YOUTH CHORAL FESTIVAL
CHICAGO – Chicago a cappella brings talented high school singers together for their eighth annual Youth Choral Festival on Dec. 1 at 5:00pm at Northeastern Illinois University, located at 5500 St. Louis Avenue, Chicago. Students from Chicago-area high school vocal ensembles have the opportunity to participate in rehearsals, workshops, and masterclasses with renowned directors and singers during this day-long collaborative event. The festival will culminate in a free concert featuring individual high-school ensembles, the Chicago a cappella High School Apprentice Ensemble, the Chicago a cappella ensemble, and a large festival choir presenting all of the ensembles together. The Youth Choral Festival concert finale creates an atmosphere of true inspiration, as talented students throughout the Chicagoland area come together to learn and perform alongside their mentors and peers. Participating high schools include Lindblom Math and Science Academy, Golder Prep High School, Christian Liberty Academy, Glenbard West High School, Chicago High School for the Arts, and Westmont High School.
Chicago a cappella education and outreach:
Youth Choral Festival: a non-competitive music festival beginning in 2012. The Youth Choral Festival fosters collaboration between local professionals and Chicago-area students in order to promote advanced levels of performance and professionalism among upcoming generations.
¡Cantaré! Chicago: now in its third year, ¡Cantaré! Chicago is an educational program combining Mexican heritage with choral singing. Julio Morales, esteemed Mexican composer, will serve as composer-in-residence for two high schools and two elementary schools in the Chicago area. He will work hand-in-hand with teachers and students to compose new music for each school. The four schools, alongside our High School Apprentice Ensemble and our Chicago a cappella singers, will join together for a final performance on Friday, May 3, 2019. ¡Cantaré! Chicago is a partner program of VocalEssence ¡Cantaré! based in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
High School Apprenticeship Program: The High School Apprenticeship Program gives high school students a full year of musical and administrative training alongside Chicago a cappella’s singers, directors, board members, and art administrators. Our high school apprentices gain skills and insights to further their musical ambitions.
