February 2011
For the first time in its history, Chicago a cappella will expand its soundscape by presenting carefully-chosen pairings of a cappella music alongside works for vocal ensemble and piano. The singers invite Music Director Patrick Sinozich—one of the city’s finest pianists—to join them on stage for an illuminating comparison of musical pairings by nine composers, one a cappella and one with piano. Audiences will hear Romantic part-songs of Franz Schubert, haunting Jewish works by Max Janowski, new compositions by artistic director Jonathan Miller, and brilliant choral pieces by Randall Thompson, Morten Lauridsen, Gwyneth Walker, and Leonard Bernstein. Chicago a cappella rolls out the red carpet to welcome audiences on an exciting musical adventure!
