“The Birds and The Bees” features famed sex therapists as guest narrators

Chicago a cappella welcomes Dr. Ruth Westheimer and Dr. Laura Berman to its stages for the group's upcoming concerts

This clever musical adventure celebrates birds, bees, and “the birds and the bees!” From Renaissance chansons to jazz standards and Motown, the nine singers of Chicago a cappella will  present songs of nature and love.  Each concert is narrated by either Dr. Ruth (Naperville and Hyde Park performances) or Dr. Laura Berman (Evanston and Oak Park performances), making for a fun, lighthearted romp! Songs include “Flight of the Bumblebee,” “Fever,” Clément Janequin’s “Le Chant de Oiseaux,” and “Afternoon Delight.”

“We first produced this show in 2010, and it was one of my all-time favorite programs,” says Artistic Director Jonathan Miller. “I wanted to do it again, but knew we needed something extraordinary to keep it new and exciting for our audience. Dr. Ruth and Dr. Laura Berman both seemed like perfect fits! We are thrilled to have them each narrate two concerts.”

“This concert encompasses what our patrons love about Chicago a cappella. It has the beautiful qualities of great choral music, but with the wit and cheekiness that keeps the music fresh and fun,” says Executive Director Matthew Greenberg.

Dr. Ruth Westheimer is a psychosexual therapist who pioneered speaking frankly about sexual matters on her radio program, Sexually Speaking, in 1980. Since then, she has had much success on television, on radio, and in print—both in her newspaper column “Ask Dr. Ruth” and in the 40+ books she has written. Dr. Ruth resides in New York and teaches at Columbia University.

Dr. Laura Berman is a world renowned sex and relationship educator and therapist. She is a popular TV, radio, and Podcast host, author of several books, and professor at Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine. She is most known for her television program “In the Bedroom with Dr. Laura Berman,” and her current radio and podcast, “Uncovered with Dr. Laura Berman.”
