Chicago a cappella’s Holiday Concert of the 2016/17 Season:
**HOLIDAYS A CAPPELLA, WITH ANNE HEIDER AS GUEST MUSIC DIRECTOR**
The acclaimed vocal ensemble Chicago a cappella will present Holidays a cappella: Tales and Legends at six Chicago-area venues in December 2016. The program features tales from the Old World and the New, including stirring folk tunes, Renaissance treasures, and songs from many cultures, as well as familiar Chanukah melodies and Christmas carols. This collection of music is sure to brighten anyone’s winter night with light, warmth, and hope. Anne Heider, the esteemed Artistic Director Emerita of Bella Voce, returns as Guest Music Director.
“Anne Heider has been my beloved and trusted colleague for more than 30 years,” says Artistic Director Jonathan Miller. “Anne excels at perfecting intonation and blend in her direction, and we are thrilled to have her for a return engagement as our Music Director for this program.”
“We have always striven to include music from a variety of backgrounds and faiths, but thanks to Anne’s theme of ‘Tales and Legends,’ we’re going to have an even wider variety. We have beautiful melodies from Poland and Puerto Rico, just to name a few, as well as holiday mainstays that everyone loves.” says Executive Director Matthew Greenberg.
Anne Heider is an award-winning conductor, composer, arranger, and teacher. She is Associate Professor Emerita of Choral Music at Chicago College of Performing Arts and Roosevelt University. She also served on the board of Chorus America for nine years. She is artistic director emerita of the Chicago-based professional chamber choir Bella Voce, of which she was a founding singer and which she led for over sixteen years to consistent critical acclaim and international recognition.
